School

School is SO hard! I was moved up to French 4 with all the grade 12 people and the textbook is in ENGLISH! French is really easy for me, the easiest subject by far. Chemistry is really hard because all the grade 12's in my class have had science at that school since grade 9 and are familiar with most things. All the things I know are in French, what a fat good lot that does me. Gym is really fun, they have a great pool and good weight room. Math is math. History is great and I really like the teacher, we're learning a lot. Business Studies is really interesting but I'm the only grade 10 in the class, all the other are in grade 12. We're playing a game over the internet with schools from all over the world. It's a stock market simulation and the person with the most money at the end of the year wins something. The only thing that isn't real about the game is the money. We also get to go around to different jobs and do them. Some people will get to go to the US consolat, some to the Emirates Airline simulator and other jobs all over Dubai. Enlgish is okay I suppose, pretty simple, same old stuff and Journalism is really interesting (except once again, i'm the only grade 10), we publish the school newspaper, the Akbhar, which is News in Arabic. Most of my classes have no more than 15 people in it and so it makes it a lot easier. The not so good part is the homework, I've been at school for a week now and I've had to to atleast 5 hours of homework a night! It's a lot like a prep school, you have to take notes as they talk, take notes about everything you read and all that stuff. I've got one or two textbooks for every class except Gym, but even in gym, we have a written mark for tests about the rules and history of sports as well as a log that we have to keep of the things we do in the weight room and all of the health and strength tests. Over all I'm having a good time, made lots of friends, most of them in higher grades, but I've also met people in my grade who live on my street.

HI Grace! Wow,grade 12 already! Are they actually grade 12 courses, or are there just grade 12 kids taking grade 10 courses? I can see why it's hard - but you can do it. I've had a look at the Akbhar on the internet - - I guess you'll have a column. I'll watch for it. GOod luck with your classes - -I know you're the best at that sort of stuff (studying, taking notes! hahah) Take care, Cathy.

Hi Grace - finally found your blog! Don't be too upset about a mixed schedule - we used to do that with foreign students all the time. Chmistry isn't all that hard ( trust me).

Hey Grace,

School sounds heavy, but that's really good prep for university. In a couple more years you'll stop counting the hours of homework. It's basically: your entire week - class time (- a really small number for sleep).

It's getting slightly colder here in Toronto and the nights are getting longer. Which makes me secretly happy because I love the fall! The babies are both doing well and they'd say hi if they knew how.
